Description

Hunter Stockton Thompson was born on July 18, 1937. This was the childhood home in Louisville, Kentucky. Thompson became the creator of Gonzo Journalism and was a bit of a wild card. The Oxford English Dictionary defines Gonzo journalism as “a type of committed, subjective journalism characterized by factual distortion and exaggerated rhetorical style.”

Famous throughout the word for his amazing writing, unique view of the world and a love for taking things to the edge. Thompson was born into a middle class household but after the tragic death of his father the family were plunged into poverty. Hunter was only 14 years old. This had quite an effect on him, he was unable to finish high school and even found himself in jail for 60 days after abetting a robbery. He went onto join the US Air Force and moved on to journalism after he served his time. Thompson died on the 20th of February, 2005 and left behind an incredible body of work. This is where it all started for him and remember “when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.”
